Schools Prep Students Through Academics, Values, and Extra-Curricular Activities

Schools Prepare Students for University – and for Life

Preparatory schools are institutions that focus not only on helping students achieve the necessary grades to get into their university of choice, but also on giving them the proper tools to help them succeed in life. Academics are a focus for better prep schools, but prep schools also teach important life lessons. Giving students the skills to create a good work-leisure balance is important.  Perhaps the most crucial role for a good private school, is to help to instill character values that can lay the foundation for a happy and successful life.

What are the values that your family cherishes? Look for a school that espouses the types of values that you hold dear. Better prep schools emphasize timeless principles such as; respect for self and for others, service to the community, and integrity. Prep schools pride themselves on providing students with guidance in the area of behaviour, as well as in academics, sports and other extra-curricular activities.

Academics

Prep schools have a variety of ways to help students deal with academic challenges, and to prepare them for university-level work. These might include small class sizes. In a small class, the student gets more individual attention, as well as more chances to participate in discussions and activities. The teacher is better able to assess the student’s understanding, and the student has more chance to ask questions.

Finer prep schools have intensive study habits courses that will help students learn how to keep up with course material, study for exams, and break down essays and projects into manageable pieces. These types of skills stand young people in good stead once they graduate to post-secondary institutions.

Progressive prep schools also integrate technology into the classroom so that students have state-of-the-art skills with various types of software, as well as basic computer hardware knowledge. Being technologically literate is an important part of today’s educational and career requirements.

 Athletics and Clubs

Encouraging students to participate in athletic teams and clubs also contributes to their personal development. These types of activities help them learn the valuable skills involved with balancing academics, family life, and recreation.

In addition, athletics and other school-related social activities such as drama, choir, robotics, or chess clubs, give students a means of establishing positive relationships with peers, as well as helping them develop confidence and leadership qualities that will contribute to a happy future. Students often discover a proficiency in a sport or a passion for an arts pursuit that then becomes a part of their lives. Good sportsmanship, cooperation, and commitment are just a few of the benefits of extra-curricular activities. Encouraging fitness and creativity helps to create students who are well-rounded and balanced.

Educators and administrators at prep schools are devoted to the personal success of each and every student. Through a rigorous academic schedule, proper guidance and a range of after-school activities, students who graduate from private high schools go on to attain success in the next stages of their lives.
